Competition Dancing
Many children choose to dance strictly for fun and fitness. Our dance year is highlighted with a recital in May in which every student participates. It is an opportunity for each child to demonstrate their technical performance skills.

Some children enjoy the additional performance opportunities of dance competition. Dancers benefit from professional critiques from nationally recognized master teachers and performers. The Cathy Taylor School of Dance believes strongly in the technical and social merits of dance competitions. Competitions inspire our young dancers to strive to new heights as they push themselves ever farther to accomplish those difficult steps that will win them accolades for years to come.

Competitions are a positive influence on social relationships, team spirit, and personal maturity. Dancers interested in being a member of one of our competition dance teams should let Cathy or another dance teacher know at registration. Some dancers may be ready for a "dance team" as early as 7 years of age (based on maturity, years of experience, and musicality). Students (ages 9 & up) interested in performing in dance competitions must be attending a minimum of 3 weekly dance classes.

**(At least one of these classes must be ballet).

Being a member of a "dance team" is a 10-month commitment so please make the decision a "family decision". Younger children typically do 2 or 3 competitions each season, while older dancers may do more. The competition schedule is generally available in early December. Families with any conflicts (due to family vacations, weddings, etc.) should let Cathy know immediately. This enables the teachers and choreographers to decide the best course of action before group competition routines have begun.
